Love – loving God above all else and loving the people around us with an unconditional, compassionate love while receiving that same unconditional love from God. We love because he first loved us. I John 4:19
He said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” Matt. 22:37-40
Freedom – making room for the Holy Spirit to move among us in the fullness of His power and for each person to experience their relationship with Christ in unique ways.
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. II Cor. 3:17
Compassion – a heart for the hurting and wounded that seeks to lead them toward healing and restoration while holding them accountable.
Jesus straightened up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, sir.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go your way, and from now on do not sin again.” John 8:10-11
Servanthood – a commitment to serving with a glad heart and a joyful spirit in both the ministries of the congregation and “the least of these” around us.
Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me. Matt. 25:40
For I have set you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you. Very truly, I tell you, servants are not greater than their master, nor are messengers greater than the one who sent them. If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them. John 13:15-17
Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves. Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others. Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus. Phil 2:3-5
Authenticity – fostering an atmosphere that prizes transparency over pretense, honesty over falsehood, genuineness over veneer.
But speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ. Eph. 3:15
Community – maintaining a high priority in our lives for intentional relationship-building with one another
And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Heb. 10:24-25
Excellence – in everything we do, committing ourselves to giving the very best we have to the work of building God’s kingdom
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. Col. 3:17
Joy – believing that the life of discipleship should be a joyous journey and not a strenuous duty creates a contagious atmosphere of laughter and delight.
You show me the path of life. In Your presence there is fullness of joy; in your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Psalm 16:11
